Meditation on Psalm 19

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.

When the words of my mouth and the meditations of my hearts preclude love, I know that I’m falling short of being the person I’m capable of being.

  1. You are a compassionate, kind and loving person as I hope I am but I feel that in light of all the horrible injustices, discriminations and inequalities we see in our world as in our country if we did not get angry and speak out in the strongest terms possible we would be letting Jesus down. After all he did get angry at the “money changers” and turned over their tables in the temple and I do not think his thoughts and words were “loving” at that time. Rather he rebuked the actions and did not attack the persons. A Buddhist teacher I knew once told me that you can hate the behavior or the actions but not the person committing them. I try to think of them (my enemies) as misguided, egotistical or uneducated, sometimes unhinged than to think of “hating” or wishing harm to the person. I too have difficulty doing this and at times fail miserably but seeing what is happening to people trying to live authentically being punished for who they love just hurts so much I sometimes “lose it” . A lot!
