Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet”; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.
Love one another, that’s the law. Jesus couldn’t have been any more clear about that, and Paul reiterated it in his letters. We don’t need to memorize Leviticus to get it right. It’s not rocket science, it’s one simple, yet difficult to fulfill, commandment. If there’s any confusion, we can stop and ask ourselves, is what I’m about to do or say compatible with love?
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” John 13:34
