Meditation on Luke 17:20-37

Pondering The Kingdom of God, Paper Cutout, Phillip Schwartz

Once Jesus was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God was coming, and he answered, “The kingdom of God is not coming with things that can be observed; nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There it is!’ For, in fact, the kingdom of God is among you.”

If the kingdom of God is among us then why am I such a mess? I’m sure that there are many theologically sound answers to that question, unfortunately, I’m not a theologian, so all I can do is ponder and pray and hope that something, comes to me. Maybe that’s the point. Maybe the kingdom of God is among us when we pray and ponder the kingdom of God.

  1. I too struggle daily with the negativity and cruelty that I see in the world and wonder where is God where is his kingdom. Then as I look around and see the beautiful greening of Spring and the glint of the raindrops on the leaves or the dappled sunlight between the trees or squirrels chasing each other across the lawn I see the blessings of God’s Kingdom there. When I hear about someone helping others or supporting a worthy cause I am encouraged and hopeful. We all need to have Faith that everything will be OK but we all also need to work to that end and spread love and help and hope and joy where ever we can so that we help grow God’s Kingdom here and now.
