Meditation on Luke 11:14-23

Paper Cutout, Phillip Schwartz

“When a strong man, fully armed, guards his castle, his property is safe. But when one stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away his armor in which he trusted and divides his plunder. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.”

“Who ever is not with me is against me.” I used to think that was a radical and divisive statement. It may be a divisive thing to say, but now I honestly believe that in terms of defeating injustice and corruption, it is just a simple fact. Those who condone or refuse to acknowledge the evil that has taken hold of our country stand against the rest of us. One cannot support racists, sexists and bigots and claim to be innocent of racism, sexism and bigotry. One cannot embrace an authoritarian and claim to support democracy. One cannot turn a blind eye to violations of our constitution and claim to be a patriot, neither can people who disregard the teachings of Christ claim to be Christian.
